DOE Awards Illinois' Scientists $1.5 Million for Next Generation Nuclear Plant Research
Investigation is underway to determine the feasibility of using impedance spectroscopy to monitor lead-bismuth corrosion. The technique of impedance spectroscopy has been used extensively in aqueous electrochemical research. Now we are attempting to apply the technology to measuring the thickness and type of the corrosion which forms on steels that are immersed in liquid lead-bismuth at high temperatures (about 500 C).
